The Other Side of Bipolar - an beautiful new MUST READ
It is rare that a book comes along that I simply won't stop talking about.
But Lauren Polly's The Other Side of Bipolar is just so beautiful and raw and real and memorizing... that I sort of want the whole world to know about it.
Lauren Polly was diagnosed bipolar at the age of 14, and spent the next decades of her life believing she was damaged and undeserving.
In her book, The Other Side of Bipolar: Revealing Your Strengths to Move Beyond the Diagnosis, Lauren invites us to reexamine our definitions of mental illness as a debilitating disease, and consider another possibility. She asks: what if instead of a wrongness, the symptoms of mental illness point to capacities that are not yet fully understood? What if being bipolar or mentally ill is a sign that you have intelligences that others do not understand?
But this book really isn't only for people with mental illness.
Who have been told anything about who they are, what they know, or what they can create with their life.
I had the great pleasure of interviewing Lauren recently. We spent 45 delicious minutes talking her book and asking her everything I wanted to know… about labels, medication, her recovery, her mind, her awareness, the process of writing and so much more.
